I see people drop everything when their phone rings. They could be talking to a loved one, buying a new car, out for dinner, spending time with friends they’ve not seen in months… By and large, they stop everything. Quick to the phone they go. And why? It’s probably a PPI claim or a spot of ‘ping-pong’ business chat, better yet a lob the brick over the wall Friday email.
Whatever it is, it’s probably not that important and you know what, most people can and should wait. My phone is not your personal interrupt into my daily life. It fucks up my flow. I cannot count the number of times I cringe when it rings. It pissed me off when Apple defaulted to a repeat alert on their iOS. And let’s face it, most of us even breathe a sigh of relief when we’re on the other end and thankfully no-one answers.
Give it up, relax… I did a long time ago and it’s great.
I ignore texts. I let the phone ring. It’s nothing personal, some people need to realise that sometimes I don’t feel like talking.
